Q:  WHAT IS A FOSTER?

A: Fosters provide a temporary home for our rescue dog(s) and provide the day-to-day care, sometimes rehabilitation, schedule meet and greets, and most importantly love and stability until the dog is adopted.

Q: HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?

A:  Nothing! Fostering is FREE.  However, TLC K9 rescue is 100% volunteer and donation-based nonprofit.  If you are financially capable of providing daily essentials, food, and other supplies (water/food bowls, leashes, toys, bed, crate, etc) during your foster duration it will help us save more dogs.

Q: HOW DO I BECOME A FOSTER?

A: To become a foster fill out and submit a foster application.  A TLC K9 rescue volunteer will review your application to determine if you meet our foster requirements.  If you are approved, you will be contacted by TLC K9 rescue volunteer to answer any questions and arrange for your foster pick up.

Q: WHY SHOULD I FOSTER?

A: #1 Fostering Saves Lives.  Fostering allows you to have a furry friend without the long-term commitment and responsibility.  It is fun, fulfilling, and rewarding to help find him or her a forever home.

Q: WHAT IF I FALL IN LOVE WITH MY FOSTER AND WANT TO ADOPT?

A: TLC K9 rescue has had many foster failures where the foster decides to adopt and provide the forever home.  As a foster for TLC K9 rescue we allow for the first right to adopt should you fall in love and its determined by the rescue you are the best fit for the foster.

Q:  CAN I FOSTER TO ADOPT?

A:  YES, we have many families that want to foster to adopt for many reasons.  To ensure the dog is a fit for their family.  To make sure they are ready for a lifelong commitment.  To see if the dog gets along with current pets.  If you would like to foster to adopt you must fill out the adoption application as well.

Q: HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO FOSTER?

A:  There is no timeline for fostering.  Some dogs take longer to adopt than others, while some may get adopted immediately.  Choosing to foster is committing to provide stability and love to your foster until they get adopted.  If you are unable to keep your foster as long as it takes for us to find its forever home we ask that you continue to foster until we can find new placement.  It is best for our dogs not to jump from foster to foster home.  We do our best to get our dogs into forever homes as soon as possible.

Q: WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES WHILE I AM A FOSTER?

A:  You will be providing daily care (feeding, bathing, basic training, etc) for your foster.  It is also your responsibility to evaluate the behaviors, mannerisms, and socialize your foster.  We ask that you provide updates and pictures of the foster so we can continue to have the knowledge to find the best fit for the foster.  As you are the one spending the most time with your foster you will be asked to answer questions and schedule meet and greets with potential adopters.  We ask that you send videos and pictures of meet and greets with all pertinent information back to the rescue with your feedback on how you think the dog would fit with the potential adopter.  If you are unable to do meet and greets, its your responsibility to make the dog available for another volunteer to assist with the scheduling of the meet and greets.

Depending on the history of the foster dog, it is your responsibility to assist with rehabilitation from stress, abuse, and/or anxiety.  TLC K9 rescue works with trainers that will assist as necessary.  Fosters should have knowledge of basic teachings of house-training, crate training, leash-training, etc.  As a foster you must abide by the guidelines set forth by the rescue.

There may be times you must take your foster to vet visits.  TLC K9 rescue will do its best to schedule at a convenient time for you.  We do not expect our fosters to take care of vet expenses but ask to ensure the foster makes it to any scheduled appointments.
